"The Honest Truth About Marriage”
WHY “The Honest Truth About Marriage”?
Our culture has become infested with love that originates in self-centeredness. CARP Las Vegas believes that as we transform the way we approach love and marriage, we will change the world.
We all desire happy and fulfilling relationships - it’s a part of human nature. We need people who we can trust in order to feel content and secure. But people are more isolated and disconnected than ever before. While our technology allows us to connect to people from around the world, we still haven’t figured out how to create authentic and lasting relationships as a human family.
Sadly, many of us have become victims of love that originates in self-centeredness. Sparked by the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s, today’s popular culture has distorted the meaning of sex, making it more about personal gain rather than selfless intimacy. The over-sexualization of love has sabotaged the moral foundations on which love is meant to flourish. Our society is confused about love and sex--so we don’t know how to value ourselves and others as human beings. The normalization of hook-ups and casual relationships has robbed us of hope for authentic, happy marriages, especially among young people.
To end this vicious cycle of hopeless love, we must boldly confront the twisted understanding of love and sex. CARP Las Vegas believes that NOW is the time for all students, educators, and faith leaders to come together and stand up for selfless and lasting love. As we transform the way we approach love and marriage, the world will change.
Therefore, in the upcoming 6th Campus Talk, our goal is to educate ourselves about the truths of marriage that will allow us to revolutionize the way our culture approaches love and marriage:
TRUTH #1: “How you live now matters.” - Marriage is not about simply finding the right person and hoping it works out. It requires real and intentional effort to BE the right person prior to getting into a relationship. Becoming the right person means knowing how to live a life of integrity, and learning how to embody true, unconditional love in all relationships of your life.
TRUTH #2: “Marriage is the doorway to greater love.” - Marriage is exciting; there’s romance, sex, passion, fulfillment, and most of all, there’s growth. There will be endless opportunities to deepen your love, as you learn to love not just your spouse, but also your children and others beyond your own family. True marriage is the beginning for more profound experiences of love - where your love becomes more selfless, mature, unchanging.
TRUTH #3: “Your marriage will affect the world.” - Radiant and happy couples can inspire others to seek for true love, while distrusting and unhappy couples can discourage hope in lasting relationships. Investing into a marriage that lasts has the power to change lives and the world. Marriage, love, and family are the foundations to any society.
